In November 2020, J&S Drilling completed the ISO 45001 upgrade audit, superseding ISO 4801 and 18001. On issuance of the ISO 45001 Certificate J&S Drilling will  incorporate the ISO 45001 Logo fully

Safety

At J&S Drilling, we pride ourselves on the strong safety culture prevalent in all areas of our work.

Safety System

Every J&S procedure is carried out in accordance with the company’s Environmental Safety and Health Management System (ESHMS), a set of guidelines and policies designed to ensure the wellbeing of all personnel.

Stop work authority

All J&S Drilling personnel are authorised to halt any activity if a safety concern is raised; the issue must be addressed and resolved before work can continue.

J&S Drilling supports and participates in Dept of Mines, Industry regulations and Safety and Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA) initiatives. J&S Drilling’s standards more than satisfy pre-qualification requirements with mining and resource sector’s high profile companies.

J&S Drilling was recognised by Worksafe as a previous finalist in the Worksafe Safety Management System Awards. Continuous improvement has provided many opportunities for change including reaffirming real time reporting and audits / inspections. This including adopting industry resources including the DMP Resource Safety HIF Audit tools.

Environmental Sustainability

J&S Drilling is committed to conducting all operations in a responsible, environmentally sustainable manner. We plan for our Environment to be here for all generations.

To this end, environmentally friendly techniques and products are adopted as they become available, including biodegradable drilling additives and spill kits.

The use of preventative measures and resource recycling has helped to reduce the company’s overall carbon footprint and develop a reputation for responsible, community-oriented management.

 

Environmental Sustainability Training

J&S Drilling conduct ongoing training in nationally recognised qualifications, units of competency and State recognised courses including: Green card (Dieback Course), Accredited Spill Kit courses and Industry / client specific Environmental Training Programs.

Environmental Sustainability Strategies

J&S Drilling continues its focus on Environmental Sustainability Strategies by installing a 40KWp Solar system and an additional 190,000L rain water tank. This supports existing sustainability strategies and the use of technology to minimise paper-based reporting and records.

Training

We place a high value on the qualifications and capabilities of our staff. The daily electronic on-line field reporting continues to be a great success story and in 2013 J&S Drilling introduced electronic Verification of Competency (VOC’s) reporting and monitoring.  The real time monitoring allows our field supervisors to manage the VOC’s of their crews ensuring inductions and training checklists can be completed accurately and regularly for all staff.

 

 

Through on-going training and assessment, we aim to maintain the highest possible standard of personal development. We are proud of our staff retention rate.

Licensed Drillers

Our drillers are licensed in accordance with the National Drillers Licensing Scheme in WA, NT & QLD. Staff are regularly trained in site and process-specific techniques.

J&S Drilling staff possess full first aid certification, competency based vehicle and mobile plant tickets/licenses and industry endorsements. Our most experienced and qualified field and workshop staff are Certified Workplace Assessors and we conduct Verification of Competency Assessments on our staff utilising inhouse assessment tools.

Recognition of Training

 

J&S Drilling was recognised for its commitment to Training as a Finalist in the 2012 Training Employer of the Year Awards and in 2013 was awarded a SkillsDMC Chairman Award. J&S Drilling was also a Drilling Industry representative on the SkillsDMC Sector Standing Committee and Drilling Reference group. Government changes in 2017 led to custodial responsibility realignments to all Training Packages.

J&S Drilling is a recognised supporter of the Australian Apprenticeship and Traineeship Programme, providing Fabrication and Mechanical Apprenticeships and Nationally Accredited Certificate II & Certificate III in Drilling Qualifications, delivered in partnership with Registered Training Organisations.
